As we look at a series on metaphors in Scripture of the church. This could raise the question, “is this a subject that is worth our time?” In Matthew 16:18 Jesus said He would build His church, in Ephesians 5:25 Paul wrote that Jesus loved the church and in Acts 20:28 Paul told the elders of the church in Ephesus that Jesus purchased the church with His blood. I think we can agree that since the church was built, loved and purchased by Jesus the subject is of prime importance. Metaphors of the church we will consider are kingdom, temple, body, flock, family, priesthood and bride. In these metaphors we will find principles about authority, importance, service, care, relationship and hope.
