Classes & Seminars

Sunday Morning

Sunday Morning Seminars:

The following classes are in session Sunday Mornings
at 9:00am

"Life of Christ: Harmony of the Gospels" - Part 2
- Ron Edson - Room 205
CERTIFICATE: New Testament

The four Gospels will be studied together as one document in a study of the life of Christ. The book, A Harmony of the Four Gospels: The New International Version, compiled by Orville E. Daniel, will be the text. A discussion format will be followed with very little lecture.  This will be a great opportunity to not only compare the different accounts of the life of Christ as found in the gospels, but also to make weekly practical applications of Jesus' teachings.

Parenting Teens - Greg Litsey, Jon Hunnell - Room 201
CERTIFICATE: Family Life

Raising children these days can be scary. Kids are held hostage by coarse TV shows, violent video games, and internet world full of constant temptation, and a valueless society. Parents are left wondering if it is possible to raise spiritually minded children in such a crazy society. The hard truth is that it is incredibly difficult to raise children in this or any other generation. They didn't come with a users manual and every model seems to be made with a different set of blueprints. Join Greg Litsey and Jon Hunnell as they discuss many of the difficult issues parents face raising teens in the 21st century. They will explore a variety of topics which will include: discipline, developing spiritual maturity, dealing with media and communicating with your teen.

The following classes are in session Sunday Mornings
at 10:30am

Elijah & Elisha (Passing The Mantel) - Ron Edson - Senior/Conference Center
CERTIFICATE: Old Testament Study

He has been called "the man of fire," "God's man in Israel" - Elijah. Only a few chapters in the Bible tell us all we know about Elijah, but something about the man captures the imagination. He felt as we feel. He struggled as we struggle. He got discouraged as we get discouraged. The fact remains, however, that Elijah was God's special man for a special time and place. As we go through his life, we will see why.

MEN'S SEMINAR

"The Obstacles - The Need - The Opportunity" Ministry To Men In Today's World - Larry Whittlesey - Room 201
CERTIFICATE: Men's

Featuring the resources of three of the leading authorities in ministry to men today, this 13 week study will explore the key issues that impact a church's outreach to men. We'll look at the obstacles that make men "hate going to church," the personal life issues that every man deals with almost everyday, and un architecture for organizing a dynamic and relevant ministry to men at Crossroads. The goal of this class is to enlighten, encourage and inspire men to get involved in their own spiritual lives and the life of our church!

Featured Resources:

First 4 weeks: The Obstacles - "Why Men Hate Going To Church" by David Murrow

Second 4 weeks: The Need - "The Man In The Mirror" by Patrick Morley

Last 5 weeks: The Opportunity - "Building a Life-Changing Men's Ministry in the Local Church" by Steve Sonderman

WOMEN'S SEMINAR

"Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World - Carol Whittington - Room 205
CERTIFICATE: Women's

The life of a woman today isn't really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at the Lord's feet...but the daily demands of a busy world just won't leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve Him...Yet you struggle with weariness, resentment and feelings of inadequacy. Then comes Jesus, into the midst of your busy life, to extend the same invitation He issued long ago to the two sisters from Bethany. Tenderly, He invites you to choose "the better part" - a joyful life of intimacy with Him that flows naturally into loving service. Join in this book-based class as we learn how to grow in intimacy with our Lord, in spite of the busyness.

Understanding Your Spiritual Gifts - Tom Burgess - Room 206
CERTIFICATE: 300 Develop

In Romans 12 seven gifts are listed. Each Christian has been given one. Do you know which one God has given you? Do you know how to identify it? What are its characteristics? Its abuses? Did you realize you could understand your wife/husband better if you knew their gift and they knew yours? Do you know why some people irritate you more than others? There has been no study that we have done in the 35 years I have been at Crossroads which has contributed more to helping people understand one another than "Understanding Your Spiritual Gift." This is a must for every member. You will be amazed at what you discover about yourself and those in your life.

Search for Significance - Kurt Risley - Room 201
CERTIFICATE: 300 Develop

We are all on a search for meaning and significance in life. We want to believe we exist for a special reason and meaning. This journey begins in a very private place: your thoughts. When I fail at something, I feel lousy about myself... When others don't approve of me, I can't seem to get over it... Sometimes it feels like I'll never measure up... These are the universal lies that trigger the cycle of self-doubt, robbing you of joyful living. Using Robert McGee's book as a guide, we will confront these lies one by one, dismantle them and point you to a higher truth that is the source of meaning and the source of life itself.

Adult Life Groups (Meeting Wednesday Evenings at Crossroads)

This is a great opportunity to get connected with a LIFE Group.  A LIFE Group is a small group of people who meet regularly to study God's word and form friendships.  We share "Life" together!  (Note: there are other life groups that meet at different days and times, see full listing under "small groups")

Adult Life Group, led by Ryan & Jeni Haggerty, meets in room #207.

Adult Life Group, led by Rendell Frunk, meets in room #205.
